Fragile summer day of dappled light
Fragile summer day of dappled light
Like a last chance to run or stay
Cannot ride far in case clouds burst
Feeling not quite home or far away
Wind capped Ohio serves no craft
Crest pushing back against the undertoe
Sitting by the river neath unstable skies
Oppressively low clouds ebb and flow
The river is full of motion and weight
A train hastens across over the top
The route has been charted without delay
Without any sidelines or stops
Homeless get stuck in time after time
Home is a restroom, lounge and lawn
Tides never change nor rivers part
Train whistles moan and they are gone
Train wheels and rivers must carry on
Fish still swim under iron wheels rolling
Dams and locks may get in the way
Slow them in a watery course like living
No landscape stands still besides the moon
Rivers run their course to the sea
Trains move rolling stock forward
Like I transverse my lifetime, naturally
