Leo Kottke and Mike Gordon at Carnegie Music Hall

My friend Ken and I went to see Leo Kottke and Mike Gordon play at Carnegie Music Hall in Homestead on Dec. 8, 2012. It was held in a beautiful old brick building up a long stairway up a hill. The seats in the auditorium were very uncomfortable, wooden like 1960’s public school fold up chairs; designed for children and hard as heck.

The music was amazing acoustic guitar from the 76-year-old Kottke and his accompanist, Mike Gordon, on electric bass. They tried to entertain the audience with conversation about tuning guitars and anecdotes, but I wish they played more songs.

Built in 1898, the Carnegie Library of Homestead was the second of three libraries built in the Mon Valley for the public looking like a castle. It is the oldest Carnegie library in continuous use, chosen by CNN in 2014 as one of the 27 most fascinating libraries in the world. the music hall seats.
