Shadows Grow Long Across The Lawn
shadows grow long across the lawn
dusk clouds remind the night
that another day has crossed the dawn
of chirping cardinal forages
so a spring nests will be full
the promise that fulfills
what 'holding on' guarantees
long after falling leaves
a decay to nourish soil
delayed reward of patience
for a new season of growth
lit by sunbeams
turning rot into
fragrant flower forget-me-nots
springing up in the springtime
like fireweed after a forest fire
saplings start tall trees
