As The End of History Demands
When we get our wish to feel like nothing,
since we can't have love lost back again,
we can’t choose Covid, pneumonia, torn ligament,
or depression to gobble us up.
we appreciate it more with springtime
outdoors,
a bald eagle mother feeding three hatchlings
being mellow naturally on forest bike paths
time won't easily pass without flexing back
remember what we achieved in our lives
and how many counted on us to survive,
so, when the sky is cloudy and evening leads to
night,
we know we earned the right to rest tight
We can dream of a nurse-mother snuggling us,
and let it rain on our plans,
let events be cancelled,
aa the end of history demands
vegging out on pastimes, what else to do
but travel and visit reality
make a few more dreams come true
living a sustainable routine with a view
the ringing in our ears our constant companion
soothing mantra of buzzing appliances
a line on-line from a friend rouses us
like a pebble thrown into our glassy lakes
we are where we are, with no way back
someone's there to share our wish to relax
we are all some one's pot or lid
every painless moment rewards us
we old fools looking goofy with grandchildren
cannabis, beer, as the end of history demands
tea with books that make us doze off
and days of wearing pajama cloth
all we want is a patio and summer breeze,
looking through magical magazines
with a lemonade or tequila sunrise
and a companion to utter our dreams
