In The Days Before Summer
in the days before summer
there was a lot of sailing to do
from the narrow passage back
to the broadside of life
not exiled or quarantined
gone the feeling in-between
when i will navigate back with
you
and you aren't in court,
foaming
in the days before summer
when Americans came out of
Covid hibernation
removed their masks to
reveal the same faces
and partied like the
goal was reached
Entrance to autumn about remaining days
long after we sail through torrential rapids
it was in the days before
summer
the days we would not
reminisce about
not think of domestic distractions
Unsolicited caresses on heaven's shore
Every ebb and flow there for our morning
Memorial Day not made
to remember
but the unofficial start of
summer
Where a dragon boat churns heavily up a tropical trough
the phantom sunshine of Taiwan warming back
as the summer swells past dawning days
